LU 211
The LU 211 modular high-explosive round is designed for in-depth action. It allows targets to be engaged up to a range of 30 km with 155 mm/39-calibre guns to NATO standard and up to 40 km with 155 mm/ 52-calibre guns to JB MoU and NABK standards. Its terminal effectiveness (blast and fragmentation) is twice higher than that of standard rounds, whatever the impact angle and burst height. Furthermore, its penetration/piercing capabilities give it excellent performance in anti-structural use.
The modular LU 211 offers two performance ranges with only one round: the HB version (with skirt forming a hollow base) can be easily converted in the field into a BB version (base-bleed) by screwing-in the base-bleed kit in place of the hollow base
A LU 211-IM insensitive version was labelled as a one-star MURAT (equivalent to LOVA: LOw Vulnerability Ammunition) by the French Ministry of Defence in 1999 and is compliant with the STANAG 4439. Ammunition improvement allows today to comply with the STANAG 4439 requirements.
The LU 211 is part of a family of rounds with the same ballistic characteristics which includes the LU 214 smoke round and the LU 212 practice round.
